This project was set out to play with the effects of light passing through high density foam material. We used a large CNC mill to mill out a pattern of nested torqued tunnels of light. A square geometry is twisted 45 degrees as it is extruded from the base foam. This is done on both sides, but with a 45 degree difference. The light result is a simple checkerboard pattern of square light on one side and a rotated checkerboard on the other. The torqued geometries allows light to be transmitted not only through the thin end plane, but also through the edges of each tunnel.
